At KPW "Halloween Howl 6" on October 26th at Wellington High School in Taranaki Street, Nurse Payne is scheduled to defend the KPW Women's Championship against NZWPW star Scarlett.
KPW trainee investigative journalist Blair "the Flair" caught up with the KPW fans' favourite caregiver to see how she was preparing for this newest and greatest challenge to her KPW Women's Championship.
BLAIR "THE FLAIR": At "Halloween Howl 6", you face Scarlett from NZWPW in your first singles match against this formidable competitor. What are your feelings around the upcoming title match and your opponent?
NURSE PAYNE: It's exciting to wrestle someone from NZWPW! I don't know a lot about Scarlett. I know, I first wrestled her in a battle royal (at KPW "Mayhem" in May 2012), but I had my hands full in that match, mainly against Misty (from NZWPW). I do know that Scarlett is one to watch out for! She's a good wrestler, that's what people should realise. There's so much more to her as a competitor than just good looks.
BtF: This is scheduled to be - to my knowledge - the first inter-promotional Women's Championship title defence. How does that affect you going into this challenge?
NP: I know there's more pressure on me to remain the (KPW) Women's Championship and keep the cup in KPW rather than have it go to NZWPW. I've been using that as motivation.
BtF: Above and beyond your normal training regimen, what special preparation have you been doing for your upcoming title defense?
NP: I've really stepped up my cardio and grappling training, so I know that I can go the distance in the ring. And I've been watching the Brute doing his physical therapy - that's always been useful to me in the ring, so I know what to watch out for!
BtF: How do you feel your wrestling experience stacks up to that of Scarlett's?
NP: I know I'm coming along as a wrestler. All the experience I've gained from wrestlers I've faced around the country and from overseas has gone into making me a better wrestler. Everybody's got their own style... I'm developing mine. I haven't counted how many match Scarlett's had, but I know she can't be counted out. I'm working hard and I'll be ready!
