KPW is all set to return to Whanganui on Saturday 21 May for "The Homecoming"! This event promises to highlight the finest in New Zealand professional wrestling for all the family. At the top of the bill, Whanganui's own H-Flame and Lazarus Volt challenge the insurmountable Renegades to prove that the River City's finest have what it takes to beat the self-proclaimed best tag team in the country in front of a hometown crowd!
When they found out that KPW's next show was in their home town of whanganui, local lads H-Flame and Lazarus Volt put their heads together and issued a challenge to the reigning tag team champions. The Renegades replied with typical acerbic style, pointing out they'd already beaten H-Flame and Volt separately on separate occasions. They did deign to dangle a promise of a future title shot... IF the duo can beat the champs at "KPW: The Homecoming". Now, the Renegades rule the roost in KPW's tag team ranks, but they don't get to chose against whom they defend the coveted champonship. That said, KPW management quickly saw the potential for not only a great match, but a great way to entertain the Whanganui KPW fans and so quickly signed off the challenge.
The Renegades team together and wrestle as efficiently as a machine. On paper, they're impressive enough: the Technician being a double-medal winner at the Oceania Wrestling Championships and the reigning KPW Champion, and Kade Morgan is a powerhouse and the only third generation New Zealand wrestler. In the ring, they've wrestled the best in KPW and come out victorious, even if they did use every shortcut they could find along the way. H-Flame and Volt have never tagged before, though this could work to their advantage - they're an unknown quality. With H-Flame's power and technical skill and Volt's resilience and unpredictability, the Renegades won't know what hit them!
However, this match seemingly favours the Renegades: even if they lose the match, they won't actually lose the belts - at least, not right away. But that doesn't mean that the Renegades aren't going to take the match seriously and aren't going to pull every dirty trick from their playbook, not because they have to win the match, but because they WANT to win the match and humiliate the "hometown boys" in front of their own hometown crowd. H-Flame and Volt need a victory at "The Homecoming" to subsequently face the Renegades for the KPW Tag Team titles - no win, no deal. "The Homecoming" will be a big step towards championship gold for Whanganui natives H-Flame and Lazarus Volt, but they'll need the support of all the Whanganui KPW fans to overcome the vicious cunning of the Renegades!
Fresh from the personal outrage of a loss at the last show, "the Fixation" has his sights firmly set on knocking down the next big thing in KPW. No more staring into a mirror at the wrong time for Mister Fox! He's focused and ready. Say what you like about Jimmy Fox, but his supreme-sized ego also translates into indomitable determination. Coupled with his determination to fight on his terms (especially if it means cheating), Jimmy Fox is a gold-clad opponent that foes underestimate at their peril. However, he's about to run into a solid wall all the way from the islands, namely Mister Samoa! The big man has the sheer size and charisma to go to the top in KPW; he's bested all opponents thus far, but certainly hasn't faced anyone quite like the Fixation! This match will see two wrestlers looking to firmly establish themselves in the KPW ranks - neither will back down and they're both set to collide in the ring in Whanganui!
Dane King is riding high following a win at the last KPW show. He showed the fans in Wellington that he had the right stuff to beat his opponent and now he seeks to show the Whanganui fans that he's got what it takes to climb the ladder in KPW. Dane King is all set to have the River City echo with the lion's roar when he steps into the ring! The young competitor brings a total package of athleticism and determination to the table, but at "The Homecoming", he's in for the fight of his young career!
Tank is a man short on words but big on power. He's equally versed in mat wrestling and power moves and is seemingly impervious to damage - getting hit hard only makes him more mad! The Kiwi ex-pat might not be the tallest, but he might be the most powerful. He'll do whatever it takes to win and if he can hurt an opponent along the way, well, that's just the sweetner in the protein shake! Look for Tank to impress and the Young Lion to step up to the challenge at KPW's "The Homecoming"!
Claiming to have royal blood in his veins, (about 20 litres of best Hapsburg topped off with Bourbon, judging by the size of him), "King" Wilba is a force to be reckoned with in both singles and tag team competition. I suppose with his grandiose view of himself, it's natural he'd be drawn to associate with the other KPW personality who entertains royal delusuions, Queen Hollie, and be drawn into her conflict with Nurse Payne. Queen Hollie's animosity for Nurse Payne is well known to KPW fans, and a loss to the noble Nurse still vexes the "royal one". King Wilba just loves any oppertunity to dominate in the ring, Queen Hollie loves any oppertunity to be "queen bee". This adds up to trouble for fan favourite Nurse Payne, but in this match, her favourite charge will literally be off the leash! If anyone can take a king-sized bite out of King Wilba, it's the Brute (look at the teethmarks in the ring ropes). The second-generation wrestler is power and rage personified, with an impressive arsenal of power and grappling moves.
Nurse Payne can also take care of herself in the ring as well as she takes care of her patients. King Wilba and Queen Hollie make a right royal couple, but crowns and tiaras don't win matches - I predict a "royal" wave of cheating and viciousness in this tag team battle. They might see Nurse Payne and the Brute might be seen as commonors, but is it time for a revolution, maybe in the form of Nurse Payne's flying headscissors? This tag team match promises double the trouble, double the action and double the spectacle!
Wild Willz wowed the crowd at his KPW debut with a hard-fought, thrilling win over KPW mastermind (and motormouth) Charlie Roberts. With his wild grin and wilder hair, Wild Willz quickly became a fan favourite as he put his body on the line in an array of high-impact, high-flying, high-risk moves. For his part, Charlie Roberts claims that even though he was pinned, he wasn't beaten, citing his determination and resiliance. Claiming the moral victory is all very well, and nearly breaking the ring with an awesome top rope legdrop is somewhat impressive, but that's not the way the fans remember the match. That's why "The Homecoming" is so important for Roberts - it's a chance to redress what he sees as a fluke, a mistake and also an oppertunity to use Wild Willz as another stepping stone towards KPW championship gold.
Willz is a hunter, so he knows that the most dangerous animal is a wounded one; he's gotr the confidence going into this match, but will it be enough? Was it just a case of beginner's luck for the hunter from the island jungles last time? Can Wild Willz skin the "Ayotollah of High Rollas", or will Roberts take Willz apart like a velociraptor pack?
With an impressive win over KPW veteran Dr Diablo in his KPW debut, the young man from the mean streets known as Mako has gained early momentum in KPW. His explosive power and resilience made the fans sit up and take notice, even as his brutality and cheating ways kept him from being admired. But Mako couldn't care - he sees life as a struggle to survive and fighting comes as easy to him as breathing; in the ring, he lets his fists and feet do the talking.
His opponent Whetu the Maori Warrior is no strange to the Whanganui fans, having earned a special place in their hearts as the "man who brings the mana". He's regularly amazed the KPW fans with his fast-paced aerial manoeuvres in both singles and tag team competition. His "never say die" attitude enables him to withstand brutal punishment and his speed enables him to find any gap in his opponent's defense. At KPW's "The Homecoming", he's all set to meet a rising star who's got everything to gain. Look for Whetu to use his speed and agility to avoid Mako's powerful attacks, and for Mako to be looking for the one telling blow that could win the match outright. At KPW's "The Homecoming", who will be victorious?
Despite a narrow loss to his mentor Lazarus Volt at the last show, the big man from the Bay of Plenty shows all the raw potential to be a top KPW competitor. He's certainly focused on winning at all costs, not caring about sportsmanship, respect or mercy. That said, Addams' power is alone enough to propel him up the KPW ranks. The circle is nearly complete and the student seeks to become the master, tattooing the lesson on Diablo's head with his punishing power moves! Bull's temper is terrible to behold and it takes a brave or foolish wrestler to step into the ring with him. Dr Diablo might just be both, but the KPW journeyman is looking to re-establish himelf in the rankings following a loss at the last show. He'll need all his experience and tactical accumen to survive the charge of Bull Adams! Since both wrestlers are coming off a loss, you can bet both men are looking for a win at "The Homecoming". Does the young Turk have what it takes to gore the KPW veteran, or can Diablo slip the big Bull a dose of bad medicine?
Also at KPW "The Homecoming", KPW fans will be able to get their favourite wrestler's autograph at intermission, all the more reason to come along and cheer for your favourite!
As alway, the card is subject to change. In the meantime, this is Blair "the Flair" saying, "See you at ringside!"
